Paper Boat is operated by Paper Boating Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17215019). Our registered address is North Barn, Wayners, Ashton, Leominster, Herefordshire, HR6 0DN. You can reach us at [email protected].
These terms apply to your use of the Paper Boat app on iOS and Android, and our website at paperboat.world. By creating an account, you agree to them.
1. Who Can Use Paper Boat
Paper Boat is for adults aged 18 and over.
By creating an account, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old. We verify this at registration. If we discover that you are under 18, we will immediately delete your account and all content associated with it.
You may only have one account. Creating multiple accounts is not permitted.
2. Your Account
You are responsible for keeping your account secure. Do not share your password with anyone else.
You can register with your email address and a password, via Google Sign-In, or via Apple Sign In. Whichever method you use, your account is yours — you are responsible for everything that happens in it.
If you think someone else has access to your account, contact us immediately at [email protected].
3. What Paper Boat Is
Paper Boat is a private social matching app. When you and another user both choose to connect, you share a private snap grid — a bilateral space where you can exchange images and messages.
There are no public posts on Paper Boat. No-one outside your connected pairs can see your content. Your visibility preferences control who can find you in the first place.
4. What You Can and Cannot Do
You can:
- Use Paper Boat for genuine social connection with other adult users
- Share images and messages in your private snap grids
- Set your visibility preferences to control who can find you
- Report users whose behaviour violates these terms
- Delete your account and your content at any time
You cannot use Paper Boat to send harmful content:
- Harassment, abuse, threats, or intimidation of any kind
- Sexual messages or images
- Content that is violent, threatening, or designed to cause distress
You cannot share illegal content:
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or any sexual content involving minors
- Content that promotes, glorifies, or facilitates terrorism or extremism
- Content that promotes or facilitates trafficking, exploitation, or modern slavery
- Content that constitutes a hate crime under UK law
You cannot operate deceptively:
- Impersonate another person
- Create a fake identity or profile
- Use the service to scam, defraud, or deceive other users
- Attempt to extract money, financial information, or personal details from other users
You cannot abuse the platform:
- Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to access or interact with Paper Boat
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, copy, or exploit the app or its infrastructure
- Attempt to access another user's account or data
- Interfere with the proper functioning of the service
These prohibitions are not exhaustive. The test is whether your use of Paper Boat respects other users and complies with the law. If it does not, your account may be suspended or permanently removed.
5. Content You Share
Content you share in your snap grids — images and messages — remains yours. You keep ownership of your content.
By sharing content on Paper Boat, you give us a limited licence to store and transmit it for the purpose of providing the service. We do not use your content for any other purpose.
If your account is deleted, your content is deleted with it (within the timeframes set out in our Privacy Policy).
You must not share content that belongs to someone else without their permission.
6. Moderation and Enforcement
We take safety seriously. When another user reports you, the following happens automatically:
- Your account is suspended pending review
- The reported content is submitted for automated scanning
- A human administrator reviews the report and the scan evidence
If the report is upheld, your account may be permanently removed. If the report is dismissed, your suspension is lifted.
You can appeal a moderation decision. Contact us at [email protected] explaining why you believe the decision was wrong. We will review it personally and respond within 14 days.
We may also take action on accounts without a report if we become aware of a clear violation — for example, where required by law or where we identify a credible safety risk.
See our Complaints Procedure for full details.
7. Payments and Subscriptions
Access to Paper Boat requires a subscription. There are no additional payment walls or paid features inside the app — your subscription gives you full access to everything.
Subscriptions are processed by Google Play (Android) or the Apple App Store (iOS). We never handle your payment details directly. Purchases are subject to the terms of the app store through which you make them.
- Your subscription renews automatically unless you cancel before the renewal date
- Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you retain access until then
- To cancel, use the subscription management settings in Google Play or the Apple App Store
- Refund requests should be directed to Google Play or the Apple App Store, as applicable
8. Intellectual Property
The Paper Boat app, its design, graphics, and underlying technology belong to Paper Boating Ltd. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the app without our written permission.
The Paper Boat name and brand are the property of Paper Boating Ltd.
9. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
Paper Boat is provided on an "as is" basis. We do our best to keep the service available and running reliably, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted access.
We are not responsible for:
- The content other users share with you — users are responsible for their own behaviour
- Loss of data caused by technical failures outside our reasonable control
- Actions taken by third-party services (Google Sign-In, Apple Sign In, DigitalOcean) that we do not control
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for:
- Death or personal injury caused by our negligence
- Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
- Any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law (including your rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015)
Paper Boat is for personal use only. Using Paper Boat for any commercial or business purpose — including advertising, promotion, or recruiting — is not permitted. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected by these terms.
10. Termination
You can delete your account at any time through the app. Deletion is permanent.
We may suspend or terminate your account if:
- You breach these terms
- We are required to by law
- We determine that continued access poses a risk to other users or to the safety of the platform
Where we terminate your account, we will tell you unless we are legally prevented from doing so or doing so would undermine a safety investigation. You can appeal as described in Section 6.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app before they take effect. Continued use of Paper Boat after that point constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
If you do not agree with the updated terms, you may delete your account.
12. Governing Law and Disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If a dispute arises and we cannot resolve it between us, you may bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales.
If you are a consumer based in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring a claim in the courts of your home jurisdiction.
We would always prefer to resolve disputes informally. If something has gone wrong, please contact us first at [email protected] and give us the chance to fix it.
